Recipe of the Week: Green Garlic & Basil Pesto

Delicious! Although, as Brian can confirm, very garlicky. The aroma of this pesto when I opened the top of the food processor was so fresh and bright. It was my first time making homemade pesto, and while I will certainly make it again, its a bit of a mess to clean up. Now, the question is: "What to do with it?" Maybe a chicken and broccoli pesto pizza.

Green Garlic & Basil Pesto

Add the following to the medium-sized bowl of your food processor: ¼ cup green garlic, white and light green parts, chopped; ¼ cup pine nuts, toasted; ¼ cup parmigiano reggiano, broken into small pieces (or use grated if you have that); salt and pepper, to taste; and, 1 big bunch basil, washed and dried, with as few stems as possible.

In a measuring cup, combine the juice of one lemon and ¼ cup olive oil. Turn on the food processor and stream the oil and lemon mixture through the top. Scrape down the sides as necessary. This recipe will make about 1 cup.

The pesto smells awesome right about now!
